O'hara makes it more crowded
Charlotte O'hara has entered the race for the third district congressional seat. She comes with fairly good name ID from her race for County Commission Chair in 2006. She also comes into the race with the ability to raise money. The question is how does the affect the race overall?
The way I see it the race can be broken down into three categories at the moment.
Front-runners to date:
Kevin Yoder - we will have to see when the first filing comes out, but I believe Yoder is going to show some fundraising prowess.
Nick Jordan - Has already shown he can raise, and still has fairly good name ID from the last cycle.
Middle of the Pack with an outside shot:
Patricia Lightner - Rumor has it she has a good ground game going. I have yet to see it but it she gets a good grassroots movement going she can have a shot even if her fundraising numbers have been lower.
Charlott O'hara - Too early to say what her impact will be. Will she take votes away from Jordan and Lightner? Will she attack Yoder from the side allowing Jordan or Lightner to take the high road? Your guess is as good as mine.
Long Shots:
Daniel Gilyeat - Personally I like Mr. Gilyeat from what I know about him. He is conservative, he is a wounded veteran, and he has a strong message. However we have not seen much of him. Hopefully he will have some good numbers when the next reports come out and I will bump him up.
John Rysavy - Again, we have not heard much on the John Rysavy front, but are hoping to in the future as his candidacy seems to be for all the right reasons. The problem is again that he might not have the fundraising capacity to stay in this race.

Is Jordan even running? You have to campaign to actually be a front runner. There is not anything on his website since last year, and he is not using social networking at all. It's almost like he's preparing to drop out, which only feeds rumors he's going to take the Lt. Governor spot. If not, his campaign makes no sense. Say something, Nick!
Yoder is probably the favorite at this point, but being tied up in Topeka is an issue given his Chairmanship. He may have some money, but as Nick found out, money will not buy grassroots. He's also got some really really bad votes early in his career.
Lightner has social networking mastered and some forget she's got Kellyanne Conway on board, who is also affiliated with Mike Pence. Everyone knows her problem is cash flow, but if she can get that, she is Yoder's biggest worry.
O'Hara is just odd. Moore got out two months ago, and she just got in? Talk about a lot of wasted time. And her announcement today had grammar mistakes and was incredibly weak.
Rysavy's a good candidate, but needs to look at a state legislative seat instead.
Gilyeat's a hero, but his campaign manager is not doing him any favors.
Things will be clear around May 1. Any of the top three could flop and any could take off.

What do you hang your hat on when you can't raise any money? Social networking! Great work, Patricia! Keep it up. You'll be 0-2 in 3rd District primaries in no time at all.

3 of them already messed up. At the KU forum in November when Gilyeat, Rysavy and Lightner all stated they would support the Fair Tax. Only Scherer stated he would not support this regressive tax because he actually had read it and understood it.
The Fair is horrible if implemented. Now if you like paying around 2500 in consumption taxes for each child or teenager in college, go for it.
I cannot support HR 25. I can support major overhaul of the IRS, but this Fair Tax is not fair to the middle class. It penalizes the middle class; which would make the upper class glee with joy. Do not be fooled by creative titles in federal legislation. I highly suggest the support of the Fair Tax was fatal to all three. (Rysavy, Gilyeat and Lightner). For two of them, a rookie mistake. Lightner should have known better. She must be hooked to a special interest group; hence why she wants to support an unfair and regressive tax system.

John Rysavy is the best candidate of them all. Not sure why he would need to look at a state legislature seat. He has proven that he is right up there with the best of them mmm....actually he is the best of them. Wake up 3rd district voters and weed out the "good ole boys" members and vote for John Rysavy who wants what is best for you! He is an avid supporter of the Fair Tax and is term-limiting himself so he does not become a career politician. Best of all he is not a lawyer!

Duane,
I agree Mr. Rysavy can be a good candidate if anyone hears of him (outside the political junkies circles). I like the term limits, I am also a fan of the fair tax. I do have one problem. When people say best of all he is not a lawyer. Why is it bad for people writing law to be educated in law?

To date, Rysavvy, Lightner and Gilyeat all publically stated (foolishly), that they support the Fair Tax, H.R. 25. This is horrible legislation. Their collective support for this unfair tax is fatal to their campaign.
Maybe they should have read and understood it before publically stating they support it.
That leaves the 3rd District race to now being Scherer v. Jordan. And Jordan was too afraid to run. So do you want a coward or a party leader named Scherer to be your next congressman?
I vote for Scherer. I know him personally.
