Pelosi Policy: Tax-Rebates followed by Tax-Hikes

This Monday, many Americans began to see the initial effects of the Bush Administration's Economic Stimulus package, designed to help re-inject millions of taxpayer funds back into the economy. So, the money will be returned to the hands of its' rightful owners while simultaneously being invested back into our stagnant economy – sounds like good policy on two fronts, right?

Not if you listen to House Democrats, who seem befuddled by the fact that it will be the taxpayers themselves – not Washington representatives – controlling how their money is spent.

On the eve of the enactment of perhaps the only fiscally responsible legislation passed by the Democratic House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi can do nothing more than complain about the possibility that consumers will spend their tax rebates on gas. The horror!

Even Senate Democrats have jumped into this debate…on the wrong side.

"It's galling to think that taxpayers' stimulus checks will be lining the pockets of OPEC. The sad truth is that the average American family will spend almost their entire stimulus check on higher gas prices this year," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., chairman of the Joint Economic Committee of Congress.

In their effort to pin rising gas prices on the Republican Party, the Democratic Party has unknowingly illustrated to the American Public exactly what the last year of liberal leadership has resulted in – tax increases.

Our encouragement to folks wondering how to spend the money is this – don't 'line O.P.E.C.'s pockets,' as Chuck Schumer so ignorantly put it, save the money for next year's tax filing – when the new Democratic tax increases take effect, you're gonna need it!

Even more ironic is the fact that Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats seem to think that Republicans somehow are the ones responsible for high gas prices. It was Democrats like Dennis Moore that recently rejected a call to force Speaker Pelosi to explain to America exactly why they are now experiencing so much pain at the pump.

During the last election season, when she was furiously trying to lobby her way into the Speaker’s Chair, Nancy Pelosi promised the American people that the ‘Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices.’ Now, a full two years later, we’re left wondering – when the heck will we see it?

As of now, the only plan we’ve seen from Dennis Moore and his Democratic colleagues is one that involves raising taxes on everything from hard-working American oil producers (not foreign ones, as Senator Schumer would have you believe) to American citizens themselves.

Want a commonsense plan for lowering gas prices? How about this – provide rubber-stamping, tax-hiking Democrats like Dennis Moore with a retirement plan this election-day so that the broken system in Congress can finally be cleaned up.

You guys truly are clueless. The point is they won't be able to spend their stimulas package on something substantive, because the rising cost of food and gas will burn through it. They won't be able to invest it or buy a TV or a car or do repairs on their house because the cost of day-to-day life is rising.

exactly...while you did try really hard on this one- everyone on both sides knows this stimulus needed to be spent on something that would stimulate the economy. Buying an essential with it (like gas) isn't what it was supposed to be used for.

it does mean, of course, another stimulus might be necessary...and that something has to be done about gas prices.

i do know one thing....when a company is making record profits they don't deserve a dime of my tax money.

Where is the Democratic economic plan?

Where is the plan to lower gas prices they promised if elected in 2006?

Promises .... promises .... just no results in either area.

The Democrats economic plan is to hide a new tax in an even higher cost of gasoline so that their government can continue living in velvet. Did you really think their 'plan' was to help you keep more of your own money?

And it rose to about 2.00 before 2006, wiseguy. 1.54 to 2.00 in 5 years or 2.00 to 3.50 in one and a half? Which would you prefer...

By the way, the Democrats didn't control Congress until January, 2007.

'Nuff said. Go back to your barrel, Mr. Fish.

Gas prices are up folks for a couple of reasons. China, India and the Suburban/Tahoe/Escalade in your and your wifes garage. Supply and demand. You demand it and the oil companies are HAPPY to charge you every penny they can.

Why not. There has been no increase fuel economy in 20 years or so.
Who needs a Ford F150 to drive to work - unless you are the Marlboro man, nobody.
Oh, those stimulus checks - when you spend them at WalMart ... they are going to China ... to help them buy some more oil and sell you sh*t in your TV room.
Take a look - that 60 inch plasma and DVD and PS3 - where did it come from ?
The place that is SUCKING your money harder than a hooker on Independence Avenue.
So you be that "good taxpayer" and spend that money in China. Help out the American Economy - NOT.

Where else is the Government going to get the money to pay for that stupid ass war ? From the people who have lost their jobs at Ford ?

How about I repeat it - the thing that needs fixing in Congress is how fast to stop the war.
You wanna pay for it ? Fine, the rest of us dont.
