Slattery's Colleagues Are the Only Ones Giving to His Campaign...And They Aren't Giving Much!

Jim Slattery's report was one step short of a pathetic showing.  Call it “grossly inadequate.”  Slattery has been telling people the reason for the delay in his announcement was that he wanted to show one million dollars cash-on-hand prior to announcing---this was repeated by Washburn Prof. Bob Beatty on the Friday April 11th episode of “Kansas Week.”  At this rate, he won’t announce until Labor Day.

This is the EASIEST money he will raise.  This is the friends/family/neighbor money.  This is the money from people who have ALWAYS given to Slattery or who give to EVERY Democratic candidate.  This is the low-hanging fruit.  You have to assume his next quarter will be weaker than this one, as is the pattern with almost every challenger candidate.  Roberts, meanwhile, raised over $500,000 bringing his total for the cycle to nearly $4 million---$3million of that still on hand.  Once the primary is over, all of those maxxed out donors to Roberts can give again.

The quote that Slattery raised ‘$288,000 in just twelve days’ is complete hogwash.  Jim Slattery has been a lobbyist for fourteen years.  He was a Congressman for twelve years and a state rep for four years before that.  He’s been actively and publicly exploring this race since August of last year.  He raised $288,000 after seven months of intensive exploration and phone calling, subsequent to a twenty-six year career in Washington.  “Grossly inadequate."

Within a week, we should have the breakdown of how much of that sum is even from Kansas - and how much is from Washington.  We're going to place our bets on the majority of that coming from the latter.  Yep, Jim's got to be sitting back wondering just exactly why he left the cozy confines of his lobbyist existence in Washington for the Campaign-life in Kansas - if he hasn't been reconsidering yet, he soon. will.

Just hold your breath a bit, boys. Slattery has been promised a lot of money by Schumer and the Dem Senate campaign committee and they, unlike the Republicans, have plenty to give. Watch and wait before going overboard. Veteran politicos in both parties in Kansas think this could wind up being a very close race. Roberts' performance as head of the Intelligence Committee will be a major issue and his long history of disconnection to local Republicans will hurt him.

I, for one, am going to enjoy watching Roberts crush Slattery. Then he will be a "TWO-TIME FAILED STATEWIDE CANDIDATE." Democrats won't look at him again even if he just wants to run for dog catcher. He'll be finished in Kansas politics for good...and probably back at his Washington lobbying firm in time to get that Christmas bonus check.

Keep up the complacency, it looks good on you. By the way, Roberts raised $500,000 in three months, Slattery raised $288,000 in two weeks. that averages out to almost $1.8 million over an entire quarter. You say he's been at this for more than that, but he isn't allowed to except contributions until he files his paperwork (March 14) and can only include contributions made on or before March 31. The postman takes time. I bet he's already got another $100k just in the two weeks+ since the filing deadline. And the $1 million remarks were never made by Slattery. Bob Beatty is a clown and a publicity whore. The stuff he said about why Slattery was waiting is 100% speculation.

Schumer dragooned Slattery into this race. Schumer and Sibileus promised Slattery millions of dollars...which explains the paltry money so far. Jim should have asked Don Betts how this really works.

Slattery was willing to give up a very good and high paying lobbyist gig because the polling shows Roberts is vulnerable and he will have a lot of money to spend. Glad none of you are concerned but if you talk with Roberts' staff people you'll find they are. That's why he's on a fund-raising frenzy (no more national money available), sending out "I am a conservative" letters and hired former Brownback attack ad "pit bull" to run his campaign. Yeah, no worries at all.

This race will be good for the whole state, because the Republicans can focus on Democrat tax hikes and Democrat efforts to destroy the Kansas economy. They can talk about, say, Moore and Boyda raising federal taxes by about $3,000 per family per year. They can talk about Subeelious' efforts to make partial birth abortions our only export. Etc, etc.

Pat Roberts deserves to be IMPEACHED, not re-elected. We remember him as the former chair of the Senate Cover Up Committee ... and covered up well for George Bush's war crimes. Too bad the Dems don't have a stronger candidate.

No Dem talking points... I am upset the Dems took this long to get a candidate and they could only find a lobbyist. IF the Governor would run against Pat Roberts there would be a contest! And we'd have Roberts evicted from the Senate.

Anonymous should stay anonymous because "Kansas Stay Red" talking points sound force fed from Limbaugh, Hanity, O'Reilly, or your other surrogate brains. Try thinking for yourself. Dems are talking about Roberts HORRIFIC errors in office on YOUR tax dollars, while you talk about being a lobbyist or how successful someone is at their job. LAME! Maybe you should go lose an arm or leg in Iraq due to Roberts' errors and see how much you like him then.

"Concerned Kansans" has no clue what he is talking about...just cause your poster boy of "Bush's Bitches" has a contested race doesn't mean that you need to fabricate info like your "hero" Roberts
