A Round of Cheers for Greg Orman!

The day has finally arrived, folks. For months - years, in fact - we've been anxiously waiting to see just what (if anything) the Kansas Democratic Party would be able to put up against Senator Pat Roberts. It's been a long ride, but finally, we have some insight into the Democratic candidate that will lose in 2008.
First, we heard murmurs about a potential challenge from Kathleen Sebelius. That simply wouldn't work, we decided - heck, she wrote Kansas politics off long ago. Then, her right-hand man Mark Parkinson's name began to surface in 2008 electoral discussions. That talk quickly faded as Parkinson didn't want to risk what little political future he may have on a challenge to the highly thought of Senator Roberts. Finally, former Kansan turned lobbyist Jim Slattery showed some interest. After thinking again about what it would take for him to mount a credible challenge (including leaving his lush Washington surroundings) he lost his nerve.
Enter Greg Orman, a young, slick Johnson County millionaire. At this point, not much about Orman is known - and the little information that is available doesn't paint too favorable a picture (just look at the above photo). Due to this lack of tangible background information, we've been forced to make quite a few assumptions. In fact, we've taken the liberty of picturing a hypothetical interview between the millionaire who would be a politician and K.D.P. Chairman Larry Gates. Here goes:
Question 1: Residence?
- Where exactly do you live, Greg? Do YOU even know? Looking at your donor history - including financial support and maxed-out donations to extreme liberals such as Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid and Bill Richardson - it seems that as recently as June 29, 2007, you threw money to national Democrats from an Orlando, Florida address. But several months before, in February, you dispersed more of your multi-million dollar bank account from Olathe. Which is it, Greg?
Question 2: Taxes?
- With your previous residency issues in mind, which of your multiple home-states do you pay taxes to? Do you carry your financial weight in the Sunflower State or, perhaps, do you prefer to have your tax form sent to a luxurious vacation home in Florida? Your debt to Uncle Sam sure would be a lot less substantive if you avoided income tax by living in Florida.
Question 3: Voter Registration?
- With all of the moving and dodging you seem to do, what (if any) location are you registered to vote? We can't confirm anything at this point, Greg, because you've been so well-traveled, but the word on the Street is that you've neglected to vote in Kansas in either 2004 or 2006. If this is true, you've literally skipped over dozens of elections that carry a great deal of relevance to the Kansans you hope to serve. How can this be defended?
Question 4: Familiarity With Kansas?
- Aside from perhaps a joyride or two to Vegas with some of your above female companions, have you ever actually been west of Johnson County? Do you have a good deal of familiarity with Wichita's aviation industry? Are you blessed with an in-depth knowledge of the State's agriculture industry? Are you aware of the concerns facing Kansas' multiple major universities and colleges? A proficiency in any of the above areas would certainly be of assistance should you actually run for Senate.
While we don't expect Greg or Chairman Gates to provide anything close to a complete response to any of these questions, we sure wish he would. At this point, it seems that Greg Orman - and his laughable Senate candidacy - represent little more than the next step for a bored juvenile with way too much money to spend.
In any case, we'll give due credit to Chairman Gates for recruiting such a porous candidate. He has literally handed Senator Roberts and the Kansas G.O.P. their ideal opponent - an inexperienced and out of touch elitist.
We won't leave you out either, Greg - we know what's happening this Sunday (your 39th birthday, you spring chicken)! In honor of that birthday (and of your visually documented pension for partying) Cheers to you, Greg! Raise that beer high and proud - you're (un)officially the Kansas Democratic Party's sacrificial lamb!
According to the JoCo election website, he's registered as 'unaffiliated'. Come on Greg, if you're going to play for the team you might as well wear the jersey.
My guess is he just changed a few days ago and the website hasn't been updated

Red is Right but needs to be Repaired! I think it is about time someone challenged the ancient Pat Roberts who had done all of what lately? Nothing!
The pic of this guy with a beer is comedy, but come on. Sitting on a couch with friends and a beer in hand? He is probably watching football and paused for a quick pic. The bigger question is what football team is he going for! Heck, Pat Roberts probably watches tennis.

My favorite Orman fact:
He donated to Al Franken....really?!
$500 to Al Franken for Senate (Democrat) on 6/29/07
address: 9580 Sloane St, Orlando Florida 32827, Developer with Denali Partners LLC

Looks like he also donated to Bill Richardson's presidential campaign this year. My guess is Kansans would not elected either of these candidates

The attachment does not say Greg Orman. Fake post or not, Al Franken is pretty funny to see in debates. By shaking it up, he removes the robot response factor you get from candidates.
I reckon this country could use a shaking up. Pat Roberts needs to go into retirement after the Intelligence Committee crony behavior. With the dollar value going to the birds, banks barely treading water, media telling us who knows what, Iraq, healthcare, we should just send all incumbent senators home and fill DC with some fresh faces that will make a difference and not worry about being reelected.

Well this ought to make the 2008 elections at least entertaining.

Well, I can't support someone who likes pretty women.

You must have a creative imagination (or a wierd man crush on Orman). They could be ugly as cows.

I wonder why the faces were obscured. The pic was lifted from a public domain.

I think he dates women disguised as cows! Maybe he is into that...never know?

I just have 2 words. Hillary. Clinton.
He maxed out to her - back in February. And when I say maxed, I mean both the primary AND the general. And he made those donations from that Olathe mansion he must have been living in before he drifted back to Florida for the summer.
Greg, dear, you've got it backwards. Go to Florida in the winter. Oh, wait, that's for snowbirds. He's a little young for that crowd, although Hillary did say he was unemployed. Perhaps this was a down payment for a little something Hillary promised him if she wins?

I'm from Johnson County and I've never heard of this guy. I'm guessing the rest of the state, west of Topeka, has no clue either

Another pathetic post, but I have to agree this guy probably has no shot. Running a newcomer against an incumbent usually doesn't work out.

FEC shows $4,600 to Hillary Clinton. Ask him whether that was before or after Sebilius leaned on him.

Apart from the obvious generational difference, it appears that he and the guv have a lot in common.

you are right - orman and the governor have somethings in common:
- they love booze (just ask the staff at the celtic fox in topeka where they had to drag the governor out after passing out in 2003)

How typically KSrepugnican slimeballish of you to write utterly unsubstantiated bs. Them's some pretty specific allegations, you betcha. Whew! You're such a deep digger for the facts, ain't ya? Call the media!! You're on fire with the truth!! The guv's a lush!!!!! And this will only prove it!!!

Amazing! Ansel and his friends are consistent. Another blog that focuses on nits, name-calling and irrelevant items. Just like the campaigns these guys have run for Kobach and Barnett. Actually, the questions raised about residency, etc. might fit Kline as well. I think that Ben Hodge, Morgan Ansel and the boys are just jealous that Orman actually knows women who would sit with him. People keep asking why we keep reading this thing. Two reasons. 1. It seems to be the only active Republican blog going. 2. It's becoming a running joke; what inane post will, Ben, Christian and Morgan come up with next.

Orman is telling friends he'll put $2m into the race. That's the only reason he was recruited. They are planning on nationals and state party matching. It doesn't matter how little experience the guy has ... he'll be better funded than Roberts.
Reply to this
Better funded than Roberts!?! Pat Roberts can raise cash so fast in and out of Kansas it'l make all you JOCO folks slap your illegal hired help.
Orman will get little to no money from the DNC, et al. They know Roberts will work and win. The D's want to draw money away from whoever faces Boyda. A trustfund baby from JOCO is just the ticket.

Ormond has no chance but, let's see. He has money, a job and parties with women. No wonder the SRK boys in the basement playing games with each other are having a hissy.

Just what Kansas needs- a millionaire trying to buy his way into a job in which he is in no way qualified for. Who exactly will this guy be representing? His clients?
Reply to this
The qualifications for Bush were, at most, 6 years of basic schooling...and who was he representing? Ah his circle of friends and daddy of course, rather than the nation.

What does one need to do in order to be qualified to be a United States Senator. Jim Ryun's qualification involved a 40 year-old athletic achievement, so I don't know if thats an argument you Rs want to start.

Jim Ryun was a highly successful small business owner and motivational speaker.

I hate to crash the party and ask the obvious, but does anyone know what Greg Orman stands for? Everything seems to be crazy stuff about past events that may or may not matter...what might this guy do for us (Kansans!) versus the alternatives? Let's keep our heads on here and decide based on what really matters as opposed to clandestine research projects or silly photos...what is Greg's platform?

Ironically, that party was thrown by one KS's more prominent Republicans

This petty vitriol is exactly why many able citizens don't run for public office in this Republic. Some of the postings, however, shown discernment and wit. Why not wait to find out what the arguments for change are? There are fiscal conservatives who are socially liberal and are in the Democratic camp. There are people who have proven to be fiscally profligate and socially conservative who side with the Republicans. The individual ideas and record are far more important than the party designation. Depending on where the sitting Senator comes down on the issues, you may actually find yourself more in agreement with the challenger. Having some knowledge of both candidates, I'd rather defend Greg Orman's record than Pat Roberts'.
Let me set a bit of the record straight:
Greg Orman grew up in outstate Minnesota with 5 siblings. He attended public schools through 12th grade then put himself through Princeton University, graduating Magna cum laude in economics and finance. He has never had a trust fund. His money came the old-fashioned way- he earned it! He's spent 15+ years in the private sector learning first hand what makes America succeed, creating jobs and adding value.
I have never met anyone who would question his intelligence, education, honesty or work ethic. To hide in a website and demean anyone is reprehensible. To disagree with someone based on his ideas is honest dialogue but to show a "happy times" photo with attractive people and--Oh No dear Lord--a beer bottle and ascribe something unvirtuous to the picture is exactly the type of guano that lines the bottom of a chicken coop.
Divisiveness is one of our national problems along with extreme partisanship. While pointing out Orman's contributions to specific Democratic candidates, no mention was made of his Republican contributions. It seems he believes that the ideas and concerns espoused are more important than mere party designation.
At this time as the nation gets turned off by the porcine habits of a government that is:
high on spending and low on accountability;
fascinated by the "now" and loathe to look at the effects of it's actions on future generations;
unwilling to air the difficult issues so that a consensus can be reached;
and "feathers" it's own future at the expense of the citizenry with perks that the average person wouldn't even imagine possible, we are fortunate to have people willing to leave their comfortable status and challenge an establishment that hasn't distinguished itself in any positive measurement. If you believe that Washington has run admirably for the last 20 years, the incumbent is your candidate; if you believe that we can do better, perhaps this challenger is worth listening to before dismissing him because he's bright, likes women and an occasional beer, made himself wealthy or didn't brush his teeth every day in third grade.

Bracknell!!!!!!!!!!
The truth will come out about this guy trust me.

Joe, we checked into this Bracknell. It’s funny you don’t see this on any of Mr. Orman’s great business accomplishments that he has released to the press. It seems he was a board member when this company went bankrupt. Not far after the bankruptcy Mr. Orman purchased his home in FL. I wonder if the rest of the Bracknell employees were able to buy a million dollar home in FL with their worthless stock.
We plan on checking into all of Mr. Orman’s business transactions. With just a little digging we found out that Mr. Orman seemed to make a lot of money on businesses he sold to KCP&L while he was CEO of KLT, the wholly owned subsidiary of KCP&L. I wonder what the share holders of KCP&L would think of that relationship. You have the utility invest in businesses you own then have them buy you out for millions of dollars. That sounds like a great idea, I bet a lot of people would like to have had that deal.

FYI Mr. Orman's grandfather was Fred Gates, who served as chief of staff for VP Hubert Humphrey. All this "self-made" garbage completely ignores the fact that he is well-connected and there's plenty of money on daddy's side.

Probably good idea to get your facts right. Bracknell never declared bankruptcy. Rather Bracknell's banks called loans because the company got caught in the telecommunications melt down of 2001. Of something like 7.000 employees over 90% retained their jobs. This is certainly a much better outcome than most other telecom companies in trouble during that era.
As for "making a lot of money" the laws must have changed without me noticing. I thought this was considered to be a goal and something to be proud of in this country. Making money is good when it is compensation for value created for shareholders.
Please get the facts straight so the exchange here can be more productive.

do we really want Bush representing America? How about flip flopper Mitt, womanizer Rudy, Larry Wide Stance Craig, David Vitter, Fred I think I might run Thompson, ethically challenged Huck A Bee...well at least delusional Sam Brownback is out of the picture...but college drop out Nick Jordan thinks he can get Representative Moore's seat? That will never happen, nor will any Republican claim the White House next year! 390 days left for dubya.
